It’s no secret that Knoxville has plenty of attractions and things to do to keep almost any visitor busy. If you’re planning to take a trip, you’ll definitely want to visit some of our favorite places to visit here in Knoxville, TN.

Neyland Stadium

It’s hard to top a sold-out ‘Neyland at Night’ game!

Home to the University of Tennessee Volunteers football team, Neyland Stadium has been a must-see attraction in Knoxville since its opening date of September 24, 1921. The stadium sits right in-between the University and the Tennessee River and can hold up to 102,455 guests. It even holds a record attendance of 109,061! Whether there’s a football game, concert, or stadium tour, Neyland Stadium is a second to none venue in the southeast. The storied rich traditions and gameday atmosphere make Neyland Stadium a must-see travel destination in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Frank H. McClung Museum of Natural History and Culture

The history starts before you even get inside!

Located on the university’s campus, the Frank H. McClung Museum of Natural History and Culture houses exhibits in natural history, archaeology, anthropology, and so much more! Built by Judge John and Ellen McClung in 1963, the museum strives to understand and appreciate the earth and its peoples through collection, preservation, study, and exhibition of objects and data. Its mission is to cultivate and enrich the human mind and spirit. This can occur through teaching, artistic creation, public service, and many more methods! To this day, the museum pays tribute to the McClung family, while clearly defining the types of collections found in the museum. Learn more about what’s on exhibit on their website!

The Tennessee Theatre

Found right on Gay Street in the heart of downtown Knoxville, the Tennessee Theatre has something for everyone! The doors opened in October of 1928 as “downtown’s movie palace”. Following a purchase by James Dick in 1981, the theatre began to shift from movies to the performing arts. After a renovation that began in 2003, the doors to the theatre reopened in 2005 as a world-class performing arts center. Today, the Tennessee Theatre is recognized as the Official State Theatre of Tennessee and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Today, the Tennessee Theatre welcomes an annual season of Broadway performances. Even more, they host many more events such as concerts, dances, classic films, operas, and so much more! Market Square

There is so much to do and see in Market Square!

Market Square is one of the must-see places to explore if you’re visiting Knoxville. It’s located right in the center of Knoxville’s downtown district. That’s only a few minutes away from the University of Tennessee campus! Market Square has been one of Knoxville’s most popular places since the 1860s when it was founded. In Market Square, there is everything from restaurants to shopping and even nightlife. It also hosts many different outdoor activities including farmers markets during the summer and fall months. If you come when its colder, you might just see an ice-skating rink set up! For certain holidays, Market Square even hosts parades including the Mardi Growl and St. Patrick’s Day parade. One thing is for certain, Market Square has something for everyone no matter your age!
